Experimental audio-visual installation
The installation debuted in August 2016 in Saint-Petersburg as an experimental audio-visual work. It features over thirty device units operating via algorithms that generate sound and light in real-time. Built-in LEDs generate light pulses repeating sound intervals, thus accompanying its generation in details.
The devices form three groups, each with defined sound characteristics and algorithmic input data creating polyrhythmic structures. The Bjorklund algorithm generates foundational rhythmic patterns based on Euclidean principles, applicable to diverse rhythmic styles from Persian to Afro-Cuban traditions.
The composition employs stochastic functions inspired by musician-architect Yanis Xenakis, referencing natural phenomena like rain or insect sounds. Individual sonic components—duration, frequency, interval, pulse count—derive from probabilistic algorithms using analog noise inputs for true randomization rather than pseudo-random generation.
